Skype Partners with TX - Think Xtra to Extend Retail Presence in Europe

Milan 07.02.2007 - Skype, the global internet communication company, has created a new distribution and retail initiative to expand its retail presence in Europe. Spearheading the initiative is a partnership with TX - Think Xtra, a European retail solutions provider for Skype Certified products. The new initiative will give over 700 major European retailers better access to a wide range of these products.
With 171 million users worldwide, Skype has built massive following in Europe through online activities and an ecosystem of hardware partners. The agreement with TX - Think Xtra will help further extend Skype’s presence by bringing Skype Certified devices and accessories – as well as Skype software -- closer to those European consumers who prefer to purchase their communications hardware in retail shops.
“Skype is looking for new ways of supporting its hardware partners, and TX - Think Xtra has a proven track record for helping retailers sell units,” said Alberto Lorente, Skype’s Business Development Director for Europe. “Customers can now view, compare and purchase a range of Skype Certified products to enhance their Skype experience.”
“Our retail channels are selling vast amounts of Skype Certified products, but there is a clear need to further developing the channel,” said Riccardo Bologna, General Manager, TX - Think Xtra. “This joint initiative enables retailers to implement a rich portfolio of Skype Certified products quickly, and Skype‘s brand recognition will certainly attract shoppers. It’s exactly what our customers are looking for.”
A wider retail presence will provide consumers a place to shop for co-branded products from a wide range of Skype Certified Partners. Initially, the product selection will include entry-level products designed for new Skype users and premium products designed for experienced users.
To showcase the products, retailers will be offered plug-and-play freestanding display units (Skype Stands), ready-stocked with Skype Certified products from a large range of manufacturers, that can be placed anywhere in the store, as well as point-of-sale material.
